Shahadat HossainShahadat Hossain, a fast bowler currently out of favour with the Bangladesh national team, has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years, with two years of it suspended, for abusing a teammate during a first-class match.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the ban on Tuesday (Nov 19) citing a breach of its code of conduct. He has been also slapped with Tk 300,000 fine.
The pacer, however, can an appeal against the decision by Nov 26.
BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said, “Shahadat occurred such kinds of offences before and abusing a teammate physically on the field is a grave offence.”
Shahdat, who played his 38th and last Test for Bangladesh in 2015, physically assaulted his Dhaka Division teammate Arafat Sunny junior during the second day of their National League Cricket encounter at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium on Sunday (Nov 17).
It's reported that the altercation took place after Shahdat had asked the 24-year old Arafat Sunny to shine the ball. When the debutant declined to do so, the pacer assaulted him physically during the lunch break.
Match referee Akhtar Ahmed acknowledged the fact.
Shahadat has confessed to the assault, saying that he lost his temper not only because Sunny declined to shine the ball, but also because the 24-year-old had replied harshly.
Earlier in 2015, Shahadat was sent to jail for torturing a domestic help.
