Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the “special edition” of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Dec 8.
This year, the BCB revamped model of the T20 tournament ruling out the franchises. The board named the seventh edition of BPL after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to commemorate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.
"The prime minister gave her consent [to inaugurate the BPL] after we made a request to her," Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hasan told the media after a meeting on the BPL at its office in Dhaka's Mirpur on Wednesday (Nov 6).
Nazmul said the BCL was scheduled to kick off on Dec 6, which has been deferred for two more days for "some reasons".
The curtain of the tournament will be unveiled on Dec 8 and the first match will be played on Dec 11, he informed.
Players' draft has been deferred from Nov 12 to Nov 17, he added.
This year, the BCB will be managing the gala event single-handedly and bearing the cost of arrangements as well as the players' fees.
