Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan clinched another franchise trophy for his cabinet with Barbados Tridents as they beat Guyana Amazon Warriors by 27 runs in the Caribbean Premier League T20 final in Trinidad on Saturday (Oct 12) night.
After winning the toss, Barbados captain Jason Holder elected to bat as Alex Hales and Johnson Charles gave Tridents a steady start and put 43 in the first five overs. In this match, Shakib lost his first down batting position and came at No 5, but was run out for a run-a-ball 15.
Barbados were struggling when Shakib left the team on 108/6 in the 15th over. But player of the match Jonathan Carter slammed a 27-ball 50, and added 63 in the last five overs with Ashley Nurse (19).
With a target of 172, Warriors batters couldn’t shine, with only Brandon King scoring a decent 43 from 33 balls. Shakib was a tad expensive with the ball as he gave away 18 runs from two overs.
Raymon Reifer helped to sink Warriors as he bagged four wickets for 24 runs.
It was Barbados’ second CPL title after the 2014 edition where they also beat Guyana, and eventually turned out to be a successful tour for Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib.
Guyana in contrast continued their perennial bridesmaid story as they lost their fifth CPL final in as many attempts.
