Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan has rated his side zero out of 100 in the lone Test after conceding a 224 runs defeat against Afghanistan on Monday [Sept 9].
Shakib also stated he will be benefited personally if he does not remain the captain and if remains so, he has a lot to discuss with the Bangladesh Cricket Board going ahead.
Asked by the newsman after the match in Chattogram, “How would you mark the performance [of Bangladesh]?”
“Zero”, answered Shakib adding, “It is definitely hard to accept (the result). This is disappointing. Because we had four wickets, we had to play one hour and ten minutes.”
“It is difficult to explain about the others but I can explain mine. Because I got out on the first ball, that made the situation more difficult. The responsibility is mostly on me. If I should not have played the cut-shot, the ball was not for that shot but I played that shot, the team became under more pressure for that,” he said
“Looking at the result, I would say, we don’t have [the ability]. If we had that ability we could show more. Taijul’s dismissal was bat-pad connected. But Miraz had wasted the review early.
"I think a player who played cricket for only one day would even understand that it was an out. If he did not take that review, Taijul could use it and it could help us more. Because Taijul batted well in the first innings, he had defended the ball well. So such issues will be there.
"Like Soumya, he put his hand on his head after taking that run; it means he doesn’t understand what he needs to do, what is his role. These things are needed to be learnt and they should gather experience. And how many days it will take to learn, not easy to say,” said Shakib.
