ReutersEngland captain Eoin Morgan has claimed “Allah was with us” after his country triumphed over New Zealand in a thrilling super over to win the Cricket World Cup 2019, reports British online newspaper The Independent.
After all the drama at the Lord’s in the most sensational World Cup final ever, Dublin-born Morgan was asked, during the post-match presentation, on whether England team enjoyed the famed luck of the Irish.
Instead, Morgan hailed the diversity of the team by sharing an exchange between himself and Adil Rashid.
“We had Allah with us as well,” Independent quoted Morgan as saying.
“I spoke to Adil and he said, "Allah was definitely with us."

ReutersThe dramatic final saw both sides score 241 from the first 50 overs, with both sides then posting 15 runs in the additional over each.
But, by virtue of scoring more boundary fours and sixes – 26 to New Zealand’s 17 – over the course of the entire match, England clinched glory by the slimmest of margins.
“I said we had the run of the green. Actually it epitomises our team. It is one with quite diverse backgrounds, cultures and people growing up in different countries,” he added.
“They are at the stage in their careers, to actually find humour in the situation we were in at the time is pretty cool,” he told newsmen.
Eoin Morgan will go down in history as the Irishman who led England to World Cup glory. From being handed the captaincy out of the blue four years ago, exiting in the first round in 2015 to finally ending a 44-year wait and lifting the title in 2019, it has been a roller-coaster.
