Brazil is eager to take relations with Bangladesh to a new intimate level with close cooperation in culture, sports, arts and, other creative areas.

Ambassador of Brazil to Bangladesh, João Tabajara de Oliveira Júnior, made this observation while introducing three visiting media personnel from Brazil to the local press on Wednesday afternoon.

The three visiting journalists to Bangladesh represent Global TV and they will see and record the zealous support for the Brazilian team as the World Cup football unfolds in Russia.

The journalists, accompanied by the ambassador, went to Manikganj today (Wednesday), to get a first-hand experience about the depth of the support.

“We are completely overwhelmed,” said Clayton Edwardo, a Rio based journalist with 22 years of experience.

In fact, walking in Manikganj, amidst so many Brazil supporters, I felt I was in Rio, he exclaimed.

When I discovered the extent of support for Brazil national football team plus the profound love for the game among the people in Bangladesh, I felt the impulse to use this passion among the masses to create a platform, with the aim to achieve long term tangible results, enthused the ambassador.

We are in talks with the Bangladesh Football Federation and will be meeting the sports minister to discuss a plan of action to forge a football based sporting link with Bangladesh, he added.

“I felt that Bangladeshis know our players better than us,” one remarked.

Talking about the first step in creating a foundation for Brazil to extend a helping hand, the ambassador made the most rousing declaration of the day saying, “Zico is coming!”

Zico, the 80s Brazilian superstar of football, who is deemed “one of the best footballers never to have won a World Cup”, is very much associated with the game, having coached Japan for the 2006 World Cup and Indian Premier League side, F.C Goa, in 2014.

“Along with Zico, some well known former players will come to Bangladesh to give an explosive start to a long term development plan,” assured the envoy.

Thirty million people will see the documentary about fervent Brazilian support in Bangladesh, said Edwardo.

Talking about the most famous and loved Brazil team which never won a World Cup, the ambassador recalled the 1982 team, calling it the team which captivated with its scintillating skills.

The visiting journalists will also go to Chittagong as part of their assignment to capture the entire gamut of World Cup support for Brazil national football team.
