Visiting West Indies suffered a horrific batting collapse in their first innings as they finished the second day scoring 75 for 5 against Bangladesh in the second and final Test in Dhaka on Saturday (Nov 1).
West Indies’s Shimron Hetmyer and Shane Dowrich were on the crease after playing 24 overs at stumps.
A combined heroic attack of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made the visitors’ five batsmen leave the field in the first 12 overs of the innings.
Shakib Al Hasan struck twice and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took another three wickets.
Shakib bowled out Kraigg Brathwaite at the very first over before the visitors open their scorecard. Shakib also bagged Aunil Ambris’ wicket.
Miraz removed three batsmen Kieran Powell, Shai Hope and Roston Chase.
West Indies’ fall of wickets
1-0 (KC Brathwaite, 0.6 ov), 2-6 (KOA Powell, 5.3 ov), 3-17 (SW Ambris, 8.6 ov), 4-20 (RL Chase, 9.3 ov), 5-29 (SD Hope, 11.6 ov)
Earlier, a late century by Mahmudullah powered Bangladesh to 508 all out in their first innings playing in 153.6 overs.
Besides Mahmudullah, Shadman Islam, Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das are the other batsmen who rolled over Windies bowlers in the innings.
Along the way of hitting the third Test ton, Mahmudullah stretched a 55-runs stand with Taijul Islam at the ninth wicket.
Shadman justified his inclusion to the side registering a fifty on debut. He was out for 76.
Shakib was not up to the mark in the series opener as he returned with 34 and one in two innings of the match. This time around, however, he hit his 24th Test-fifty and stretched it to a significant 80 to help Bangladesh to have solid first innings total.
Liton Das, who was not the part of the team initially, struck his fourth Test-fifty off 50-balls. This is his first fifty in 11 innings.
Bangladesh added 249 to their first-day tally in last five wickets.
The score is Bangladesh’s second-highest total against the West Indies. Their highest total against the Caribbeans remains 556 that they gathered in 2012 in the same venue.
Bangladesh lost seven of their 10 wickets to spinners. While Jomel Warrican, Devendra Bishoo and Kraigg Braithwaite shared two-wickets each, Roston Chase took one.
