Bangladesh's Shakib al Hasan briefs the media in the UAE. PHOTO/BCBShakib Al Hasan has left for home hours after he was ruled out of Bangladesh’s crucial Asia Cup Super Four match against Pakistan on Wednesday due to finger injury.
“Shakib departed Abu Dhabi by a Dhaka-bound flight at 4pm (local time),” Team Manager Khaled Mahmud Sujan told Bangla Tribune.
Sujan said, “Shakib is likely fly to Melbourne in next week as his finger is in a bad shape. He needs to go under surgery as soon as possible.”
“We have a non-stop schedule ahead. Shakib may miss Bangladesh’s series against Zimbabwe,” Sujan said before adding, “We want him to be fit during the series against West Indies.”
The 31-year-old all-rounder has been suffering from injury since he fractured one of his left hand’s fingers during the tri-series against Sri Lanka and India at the Nidahash trophy in March this year.
Shakib’s left hand’s little-finger had swollen up overnight.
Earlier in the day Sujan said, “Shakib went to the physicians twice in the last couple of days. As per the last checkup with the doctor, the finger had swollen up too much and he can’t even hold the bat.”
Shakib was scheduled to go under a surgery before in September that would have ruled him out of the Asia Cup.
But, Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the squad including Shakib considering that the world’s top all-rounder was too important to miss.
