Jamaat-e-Islami is trying to capitalise on the existing coronavirus crisis with some scholars trying to raise the issue of freeing war criminals, according to Alem Muktijoddha Projonmo Forum.
In a statement on Saturday (Mar 27), the organisation’s Publicity and Publication Secretary Hossain Ahmed observed that some scholars with Jamaat affiliations are trying to raise demands on freeing the war criminals.
“In an independent and sovereign country, demanding freedom of war crime convicts is equivalent to supporting their crime,” the statement said.
According to the forum, Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi’s life sentence cannot be suspended in any manner.
“Freeing him will lead to anarchy and destroy communal harmony,” the statement read.
The organization strongly opposed freeing him and urged everyone to remain conscious against rumours.
