Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam HanifA free and fair election like that of the Dhaka city corporations elections was never held in last 100 years, says Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif.
He came up with the remarks at a media conference at the AL president's Dhanmondi offices in Dhaka on Saturday (Feb 1).
Termed BNP’s allegation over the election as "ridiculous", Hanif said, “It seems that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has written his statement before the election held.
"It has unleashed shameless falsehood over the election as per their old habit. Their allegations are ridiculous.
“BNP has to seek apology before the nation for their shameless falsehood if they fail to provide any evidence of their allegation,” he added.
Hanif said that BNP came up with the allegation in advance after sensing sure defeat in the city polls.
“They (BNP) don’t even believe in people’s voting right,” he said.
Hanif, however, thanked BNP for staying in the election race until the last moment.
While replying to a journalist's query over BNP’s remark that ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ was absent in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in some places, Hanif said this is ridiculous too.
“Such free and fair election using EVMs was never held in last 100 years,” he added.
