Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader speaking to the media after inaugurating the highway police command and monitoring control centre at the Meghna toll plaza in Narayanganj on Sunday (Jun 2).

Blaming BNP for hatching a conspiracy to foil the upcoming Dhaka City polls, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that his party will stand guard at the polling stations in a bid to prevent the BNP's move.
“BNP is gathering the outsiders including listed criminals in Dhaka,” he told a media call at party chief’s Dhanmondi office in Dhaka on Thursday (Jan 30).
Quader alleged that BNP has planned to "deploy 500-strong muscle at each polling station to carry out brawl to foil the polls.”
“We have taken organisational preparation to ensure a congenial polls atmosphere free from intimidation,” he said before instructing the party leaders and activists to stay alert.
“We will not engage in any conflict or clash with the rivals,” Quader assured.
The senior AL leader alleged that BNP leaders are spreading propaganda and making misleading remarks.
"The party is directly inciting [its supporters] to foil the polls environment," said Quader, who is the road transport minister.

Election to Dhaka North and South City Corporation is set to begin at 8am on Saturday (Feb 1).
