Jatiya Oikya Front is not satisfied with the campaigning of BNP candidates for the upcoming Dhaka City Corporation elections. Leaders of the alliance say that BNP has to be more active on the field and the rallies plus posters need to be visible.
Only then will the voters feel encouraged to go to the polling stations to vote. Such sentiments were aired on Wednesday (Jan 16), at the chamber of Dr Kamal Hossain during an Oikya Front steering committee meeting.
Steering committee member, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, said: “This government has taken away the voting rights of the people and to give the people back their rights we need to come back on the field.”
Senior BNP leader, Dr Moin Khan, who was present at the meeting said: “Our workers and leaders are being arrested and workers are also being beaten up and posters torn.”
One leader of the front said: “We have told BNP to be more vocal and visible on the field.”
On Saturday (Jan 18), Oikya Front will present its position on the usage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) through a media briefing.
This may be held at the National Press Club or Reporters’ Unity and feature Dr Kamal Hossain, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and others.
Oikya Front steering committee member Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, said: “We will present our stance on the EVM usage.”
