Amid allegations by the BNP over its candidates may win the Dhaka city corporations polls if it is held fairly, a senior Awami League leader has assured of a free, fair and neutral election.
"BNP can't claim that their candidates have enough popularity and a clean image to win the polls. But they can dream of it. Because, the elections will be free from intimidation and it will be held in a fair, transparent and neutral manner," General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday (Jan 13).
Speaking at an event marking the Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day in Dhaka, Quader claimed the AL candidates face no image crisis.
"We believe people will vote for candidates with a clean image," he said.
Blaming BNP for making complains till voting ends, Quaer said, "They had brought the illogical allegation in the Sylhet city polls.
"They then took a u-turn after their [mayor] candidate won the polls," he added.
