BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressing an audience at an event in front of the National Press Club on Saturday (Jan 11)BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader to quit his post as a Cabinet member and join the Dhaka City corporations polls.
His remarks came on Saturday (Jan 11) in response to Quader saying if Fakrul can take part in the campaigns, so can he.
“Of course you can. Quit your post as a minister, let’s all participate in the elections together,” Fakhrul said addressing Quader.
He added that the law does not allow ministers and lawmakers to take part in the polls campaign.
“You campaign for the boat and I’ll campaign for sheaf of paddy,” he said before calling on the minister to create a level playing field for the upcoming polls.
Fakhrul said that their chief Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned in false cases and the government has “encroached on the state mechanism along with the judiciary.”
Slamming Quader for his comments that Khaleda wasn’t ill enough to warrant advanced treatment abroad, he said that the government must take responsibility if anything happens to the former premier.
Fakhrul said that the people can’t be repressed for long and BNP has decided to contest the Jan 30 city polls as part of its movement to free Khaleda.
