“We will lead the organisation according to Prime Minister’s instructions,” its President Al Nahian Khan Joy told Bangla Tribune on Saturday (Jan 4), hours after the 'acting' tag was dropped from his and acting General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya's designations.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, Lekhak echoed the BCL president.
Awami League chief Hasina announced the duo as full-fledged leaders at a reunion of the ruling party’s student front, which marked its 72nd founding anniversary.
Joy and Lekhak were given the charge of the acting leadership of BCL nearly four months ago.
“We will lead the BCL to uphold its image as a historic and glorified organisation as per Sheikh Hasina’s instruction to realise the dream of Father of the Nation,” said Joy.
“Awami League chief has awarded us (Joy, Lekhok) full-fledged posts on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the organisation,” said Lekhok.
“We are lost for words to describe our feelings [for the decision],” he added.
Noting the announcement of full-fledged panels of BCL’s two units, BCL President Joy said, the remaining committees among 111 units across the country would be announced soon.
Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani were removed as the BCL's president and general secretary in September for their controversial activities and alleged corruption.

Joy and Lekhak have been leading BCL as the acting leadership since then.
