FILE PHOTO/Syed Zakir HossainBNP is making calculations about taking part in the by-election of Dhaka -10 seat vacated by Dhaka South City Corporation, DSCC, election candidate, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
BNP sources say that if the voting activity for the city election is not satisfactory then they will not take part in the Dhaka-10 by-election.
In the Dec 30, 2018, election, BNP candidate for Dhaka-10 seat was vice-chairman Abdul Mannan. But since Abdul Mannan is suffering from old-age ailments, he will not be made a candidate this time.
It’s believed that BNP executive member and Dhanmondi thana president, Sheikh Rabiul Alam, and the son in law of Abdul Mannan, barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed, have expressed interest to become candidates for Dhaka-10.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam got primary nomination during the 11 national parliamentary elections but was not given final nomination since he was arrested prior to the election.
On the other hand, barrister Nasir has been living abroad for a long time and reportedly has a strong link with acting party chairman Tarique Rahman.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam said: “If the party decides to take part in by-election then I am interested.”
Meanwhile, a party standing committee member, added: “whether BNP will take part in the Dhaka-10 by-election or not will be decided by Tarique Rahman along with the candidate.”
