Awami League’s Dhaka city mayoral candidates Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Atiqul Islam have filed their nomination forms with returning officers for the polls slated for Jan 30.
Dhaka North candidate Atiqul and Dhaka South candidate Taposh filed the nomination with the respective returning officers on Tuesday (Dec 31).
“If the citizens of Dhaka elect me and give me the opportunity to serve them, my first priority will be to ensure service for the long neglected citizens,” Taposh said after submitting the form at Muktijoddha Sadek Hossain Khoka Community Centre in Dhaka.
Swerving a question on the incumbent Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Hossain Khokon not being there with him, he said the Awami League is an inclusive organisation.Taposh who stepped down as the Dhaka-10 lawmaker to run as mayor, hoped that people will vote for him based on his capability and experience.
Meanwhile, Atiqul said that councillors involved with the illegal casino operations will not be tolerated.
Responding to queries on whether BNP would have a fighting chance, he said that the ruling party believes in a participatory election and stable political environment was imperative to the country’s development.
