Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral candidate Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh has pledged a 30-year ‘mega plan’ to transform Dhaka if he is elected during the Jan 30 city corporations polls.
His remarks came on Sunday (Dec 29) after Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of the mayoral candidates for Dhaka North and South.
“Those who are neglected in the capital will be given their citizens’ rights,” he said before adding that he plans to achieve it by 2041.
He said that a more developed capital was imperative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s goal of transforming Bangladesh into a developed country.
The ruling decided to give its mandate to Taposh, the ruling lawmaker from Dhaka-10, for the South city, turning down incumbent mayor Sayeed Khokon while incumbent North Mayor Atiqul Islam was given the ticket for the second time.
