Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has warned party men not to assume that cleansing drives against corrupt, landgrabbers, and racketeers has weakened.
He made the statement at the second session of Awami League's 21st National Council at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka on Saturday (Dec 21) morning.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said those involved in unlawful activities are under surveillance.
“No one but Sheikh Hasina is indispensable for the party. There is no replacement for her,” said Quader, adding that Awami League has sustained due to people’s affection for the party.
He said, "We must reinforce our party to strengthen the government; therefore any internal conflicts within Awami League will not be tolerated."
Quader also mentioned that Awami League must be sustained in order to strengthen Bangladesh and protect democracy within the country, as well as preserve the essence of independence and uphold the nation's developmental activities.
Highlighting the party’s focus on teamwork, he said, "I have served the party for three years and our team has always maintained good communication with the grassroots level."
The 21st National Council of the Bangladesh Awami League, one of the oldest and largest political parties in the country, began on Friday (Dec 20).
Central leadership of the party will be elected in the two-day council.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the longest-serving president in the history of the party, inaugurated the council on Friday.
Around 7,500 councillors, 15,000 delegates, and 5,000 special guests joined the opening ceremony, according to party insiders. Several thousands of party followers and activists from all over the country congregated near the venue of the triennial mega event.
