Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the two-day national council of the largest and oldest political wing of Bangladesh.
She has opened the 21st national council of the party at 3:04pm on Friday (Dec 20).
Since dawn, the ruling party’s leaders and activists from all over the country have started to gather outside of the venue and turned it a festive ground.
Around 7,500 councillors, 15,000 delegates, and 5,000 special guests are expected to join the opening ceremony, according to party insiders.
Law enforcement agencies have taken foolproof security measures at Suhrawardy Udyan as well as the entire city to avoid unpleasant incident centering the council.
Plainclothes police officers are surveilling around the venue and army troops were deployed to ensure the safety of party chief Hasina, who is also the current prime minister of the country.
