BNP leaders and activists are paying tribute to the martyred intellectuals at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in the capiltal’s Mirpur on Saturday (Dec 14).The autocrat government has shattered the essence of our Liberation War, the dream of a sovereign and democratic Bangladesh, says BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“Now people are being deprived of democracy and rights,” Fakhrul said while he was addressing media after paying tributes to the martyred intellectuals at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in the capital's Mirpur on Saturday (Dec 14).
Terming the party founder Ziaur Rahman as ‘Declarer of independence’, the senior BNP leader said, “His wife [Khaleda Zia] has been detained, tortured by Pakistani Army [during Liberation War], now she is imprisoned with thousands of party men.”
“Pressing fabricated charges, democratic parties are being shut, an attempt to uproot BNP is carrying out,” he added before urging for people’s unity to ‘fight for democracy.’
Referring to current National Register of Citizens (NRC) crisis at Assam in India, Fakhrul said, “We [BNP] are concerned over it from beginning, as it’s a threat to the sovereignty of Bangladesh.”
“The crisis will trigger unrest, conflict across the South Asia,” he warned.
