Combination of file photos show Awami Matsyajibi League president Saidur Rahman (L) and General Secretary Asgar Naskar.Saidur Rahman has become the president of the Bangladesh Awami Matsyajibi League and Asgar Naskar the general secretary. Saiful Islam Manik has been elected the executive president.
The 11-member committee has been declared by AL general secretary Obaidul Quader at the first triennial council session of Matsyajibi League, an affiliate organisation of the ruling Awami League, at the Krishibid Institution in Dhaka on Friday (Nov 29).
At the speech, AL general secretary said: “There is lack of discipline; it seems there are more leaders here than workers; those who are in Dhaka are occupying leadership posts which is not right.”
“We want sister orgnisations to speak for the people, we do not want to open a shop for extortionists,” said Quader.
Asking everyone to be cautious he added: “Anyone linked to drugs, terrorism, extortion or illegal occupation of land will not be able to stay here.”
The initial efforts to declare a leadership failed since there was lack of coordination between Matsyajibi League leaders. Later, at the advice of AL president Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Qauder, declared the new leadership.
