Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the prison is not a place of comfort. He said these during a press briefing with reporters at Road Transport and Bridge Ministry on Sunday (Feb 11).
He said, "There is no provision to keep a care-taker or a personal assistant in prison. Our leader (Sheikh Hasina) was in prison during the 1/11 period, she was not allowed to keep a caretaker in the prison. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was in jail, he also did not get such kind of benefit. In the end, prison is not a place for comfort.”
BNP has alleged that Khaleda Zia is not being provided with the division in the prison. Regarding this Quader said, "Begum Zia will get the division within a short time. However, where she had been kept is suitable for her.”
"Though the building (where Khaleda Zia is kept) is abandoned, it is VIP facilitated,” he added.
It is to be noted that the 5th Special Judge Court has sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years imprisonment on Thursday (Feb 8) in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
She was taken as a prisoner to the old central jail immediately after the verdict was announced on that day.
She is staying in the jail for the past four days.
