“We sought a clearance to hold a rally in Nayapaltan demanding the release of party chief Khaleda Zia, which the police denied,” said Assistant Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam Azad.
The party said it would hold the rally on Sunday (Nov 24) either in front its Nayapaltan office or the National Press Club.
“The rally will begin at 2pm on Sunday,” Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told a media briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office on Saturday.
“We have already sought permission to hold the rally at any of the two spots,” he added.
A three-time prime minister, Khaleda is currently serving a 17-year in prison in two corruption cases.
The 74-year-old politician has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since Apr 1 under the supervision of the jail authorities.
