Five political parties are linked to BNP’s process in forming an alliance. Interested parties want balance of power. There is also the question about reaching a compromise over seat allotment.
After field investigation, it’s discovered that there is a creeping sense of hesitation and unease among the parties.
Some BNP standing committee members say that forming a unity takes time.
The parties which may join the BNP are: Bikalpa Dhara, Krishak Sramik Janata League, JSD, Nagorik Oikko and Gono Forum.
Mirza Fakrul already talked to Bikalpa Dhara president, Dr. A Q M Badruddoza, and joint secretary general, Mahi B Chowdhury. BNP standing committee members, Dr. Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain and barrister Moudud Ahmed met Dr. Kamal Hossain.
While discussion is on, a definite framework has not be formed as yet.
However, all interested parties have said they will not get into an alliance with Jamaat.
It seems, BNP will have to side line Jamaat.
Mahi B. Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune: “a unity is essential; democracy is almost dead in Bangladesh; BNP or our party cannot fight on our own, therefore, a unity is crucial.”
Everyone has their own objective, with a separate political agenda. A consensus has to be reached on the political target and then, based on balance, a unit can be formed, he said.
It’s believed that during the meet with Dr. Kamal, statements were exchanged which was supposed to be revealed to the media.
Meanwhile, in forming the alliance, BNP will be compelled to sever ties with Jamaat.
An alliance has to be formed, leaving out Jamaat, said Subrata Chowdhury of Gono Forum.
On the other hand, a BNP standing committee member expressed misgivings about the potential alliance.
A Jukto front leader believes that if there’s an alliance, leadership will fall on BNP.
