Ruling Awami League (AL) led 14-party Alliance has demanded a special speedy trial to bring justice to murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad.
"We urge the Home Ministry for a speedy trial in the Abrar murder case," said alliance spokesman Mohammad Nasim.
He was talking to reporters after an emergency meeting of the alliance at Awami League's central office at Dhaka's Gulistan on Friday.
The AL leader expressed dejection about the BUET vice-chancellor not appearing in public for two days after Abrar's murder.
Regarding the recent calls for banning student politics on BUET campus, Nasim said: "We do not support banning student politics."
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Chief Hasanul Haque Inu said student politics will not be banned but politics of terrorists will be banned.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on Oct 7.
Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Following the incident, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police.
The BCL also expelled 11 of its members permanently from the organization for their alleged involvement in the murder.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
As of Friday, as many as 17 people have been arrested in connection to the murder.
