The ruling Awami League’s youth front Jubo League has expelled its Dhaka south unit organisation secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, who is currently being held over allegedly patronizing an illegal underground casino at Dhaka’s Fakirapool.

The decision was made by the front’s Chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury on Friday (Sept 20), Jubo League spokesperson Mizanul Islam told Bangla Tribune.

“Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan has been expelled from Jubo League for violating the rules and for carrying out anti-social activities,” he said.

Elite police unit Rapid Action Battalion arrested Khaled from his residence at the capital’s Gulshan on Wednesday (Sept 18) for running an illegal casino inside a sports club in Fakirapool named Youngmen's Club, where he is the president.

RAB carried out simultaneous raids on his home and the club where they seized three firearms, including two in alleged breach of licence conditions.

As many 142 people, including two women, were detained from the club. Large quantities of alcohol, gambling equipment and Tk 2.4 million in cash were seized from the establishment at the city's Motijheel. RAB said that Khaled will be charged under the money laundering, narcotics and firearms acts.
