Family members of jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have failed to meet her at the old jailhouse in Dhaka.
The three-time prime minister is serving a five-year term after she was convicted of embezzling foreign donations made to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
Sister Selima Islam and four others arrived at the premises around 4:45pm on Saturday, but after waiting for half an hour they left.
“During previous visits, we were allowed to go upstairs to meet her at the passage beside her room. We came today after knowing that she was ill. We had the proper clearance, but she is unable to use the stairs and we are not allowed to upstairs,” Selina Islam told the media outside the prison premises.
On Jul 10, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed at a media briefing that Khaleda’s family members were not being allowed to meet her for the last 11 days.
