Legal measures will be initiated if the recently ousted ruling party student front Bangladesh Chhatra League chief Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani are found guilty of criminal offence, said senior Cabinet member Obaidul Quader.
“Nothing like this has happened in the history of Chhatra League. The leadership was elected after much scrutiny at the orders of the prime minister,” he told the media on Tuesday (Sept 17).
“This should be an example for everyone,” he said and added that the Sheikh Hasina-led government does not condone irregularities and anyone involved with graft will not be spared.
He said that the ruling party faces many issues with many opportunists often dampening many of the government’s praiseworthy works.
The minister said that the prime minister who is recognised worldwide for her “clean image” is doing everything to maintain the image of the party.
He added that following the BCL issue, the matter of the party’s youth affiliate Juba League has also come to discussions.
“They themselves have formed a tribunal for themselves. Let’s see what happens,” he said.
Responding to queries on whether using intelligence agencies to probe the party activists and leaders is a misuse of power, he said, “It’s their job to report anyone who’s an obstacle for the government image and operations.”
