Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader (FILE PHOTO)Failing to raise a movement, the BNP is now riding on the back of quota reform protests by the students and job seekers, says Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

Speaking to the media at his offices on Monday, he said that there were no uncertainties over the issue as a committee has been formed.
“The committee has held its first meeting. It has decided to collect information from various sources worldwide... it’s a complex and complicated issue and a solution can’t be expected suddenly,” said Road Transport Minister Quader.
Urging the protesters to have patience, he said, “The prime minister has taken a decision, formed a highly-powered committee, which has started to work. I would ask all to wait. The prime minister keeps her word.”
BNP has failed to raise a movement for the last nine years, he said before adding: “They (BNP) are now trying to reap benefits of the quota reform movement or for that matter, any other movement.”
“(BNP’s) acting chairmen (Tarique Rahman) had called a Dhaka University teacher over the quota reform movement and everyone knows it,” he said.
Quader said, “They (BNP) have no popular support to wage a movement so they have rode on the back of quota movement.”
On the BNP’s demand for party chief’s release, Quader said, “If Khaleda Zia can walk out of jail through the legal process she will be free then and we believe that’s the only way.”
“With only three months left to the general election, the people do not seem to be concerned about Khaleda’s release,” he said.
Quader, however, declined to comment on HT Imam’s remarks on 'no reason for Delhi to trust pro-Pakistan BNP'.
“He (HT Imam) went to Brussels from New Dehli to attend a European Parliament programme. I should not make a comment before talking to him.”
Imam, the political affairs adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said that despite BNP’s efforts to fix its relations with India, New Delhi will never trust a party, which is pro-Pakistan and has an ally like the Jamaat-e-Islami.
His remarks came on Saturday during an interaction with senior fellows of think-tank Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi.
Quader, however, said, “It’s not our concern whether India puts its confidence on any political party (of Bangladesh) or not."

"If he had said something like that, I find it inappropriate, but I need to check with him (HT Imam)” said the Awami League general secretary.
