BNPBNP is taking part in a token hunger strike at the city’s Natyamancha, demanding release and proper treatment of chairperson, Khaleda Zia.
Leaders of the party however feel that such programmes are fruitless.
To secure the freedom of Khaleda Zia, we have to unite the party and come out on the streets.
The token strike began at 9am and will go on until 4pm in the afternoon.
BNP leaders pointed to government’s ongoing vendetta aimed at Khaleda Zia and demanded the chairperson be given the chance to be treated at United hospital.
BNP members, Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, Joynal Abedin Faruk, Selima Rahman and others are present at the strike.
To express solidarity with BNP, leaders of the 20 party alliance also joined the token strike. Khaleda Zia is incarcerated in Old Dhaka’s prison building after being convicted in the Zia orphanage case corruption case.
Previously, BNP observed a similar campaign in front of the press club on February 13.
