The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was bereft of the joy of Eid-ul-Azha this year as its Chairperson Khaleda Zia was spending her days in imprisonment, says BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
The BNP leader made the comments while speaking to the media after paying his respects to the grave of Ziaur Rahman, the party’s founding president, in Dhaka on Monday (Aug 12).
Mosharraf said that the nation was unable to celebrate the joyous day of Eid with fervour as the government’s incompetence and inefficiency has left it struggling with floods and a dengue outbreak.
He said that the government had utterly failed to prevent the train schedule collapse and gridlocks on highways during the Eid holidays.
The country needed a democratic government to set it free from the state of mismanagement and anarchy that were prevalent everywhere at present, added the member of the top body.
