Jamaat informed the party leaders and workers about developing a new organisation on Feb 15 last. A letter was also sent to party high ups on Feb 16-17 underlining the initiative.
Even after six months, the five member special committee could not finalise the outline of the new party.
Reportedly, there’s division among committee members over several issues; it’s believed that the five member committee could not take decision on ideological issues and financial sources.
Whether the party will be secular or religion based, the format of the organogram and financial structure are some of the unsettled matters.
The committee led by party secretary general, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, could not reach a consensus on the curriculum of Jamaat which is used to motivate and a worker.
However, one executive council member feels that the new organisation will be free and under a new leadership.
Member of the executive council, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, says: “We have made progress; in time, we will settle everything.”
Several source within Jamaat have said that since the party is politically inactive, it’s busy restructuring.
Executive council member, advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, commented: “No specific time frame has been declared so time is not a factor; a month ago, a Chhatra shibir leader had asked the rationale of emerging in a new name.”
Jamaat has no plans to seek apology for its role in 1971 so a new name may not be that helpful, commented a Chhatra Shibir leader.
On Jan 14 last, a few proposals were sent to the members of the Jamaat central Shura Council and then, a five member committee was formed to develop a new party.
On the accusation that the issue was kept secret, party secretary general, Abdur Razzak, who was in London at that time, resigned from his post.
On Feb 16, Chhatra Shibir president, Mujibur Rahman Manju was expelled for breach of discipline.
