The BNP has demanded treatment for its incarcerated Chairperson Khaleda Zia as per her choosing.
“We demand her release without any delay,” Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while addressing a media call at the party chief’s Gulshan offices on Friday (Jul 26).
“We demand that arrangements for her to receive treatment wherever she wants-home or abroad- should be made,” he added.
Claiming that Khaleda’s health has deteriorated alarmingly in the last 17 months, Fakhrul said that she can no longer walk without a wheelchair.
He said that she has contracted ulcer on her tongue and she is in dire need of dental care.
Saying that Khaleda has lost weight, he added, “She lost four kilos in four weeks. It is a warning sign.”
Fakhrul said that she is unable to eat anything and being through inhuman ordeals.
Reiterating that she is being pushed towards her death by being denied treatment, he asked, “Are they [government] trying to end her life out of political vendetta?”
He said that her diabetes wasn’t still under control despite insulin administrations and added that the government was interfering in her bail although she deserves it.
