At the Gazipur city corporation polls, AL candidate won by more than two lakh votes. However, when talking to Bangla Tribune, central leaders of AL said: we are worried as to how the BNP candidate got so many votes.
They underlined local unity to be the core cause for victory.
To maintain unity, the central leaders kept a vigilant eye on local leaders and workers, they opined.
Kazi Zafrullah told Bangla Tribune: “I am surprised how BNP got so many votes when, during their regime, there was so much tyranny looting and killings.”
AL leaders believe that by selecting AL candidate, Jahangir Alam, local voters have responded against corruption, deceit and the politics of pillaging.
It’s believed that when the PM was informed of the voting results she was surprised that the BNP candidate got so many votes.
The voting results show a gap of more than two lakh votes between the AL and BNP candidates. However, the fact that BNP still bagged almost two lakh votes has worried the AL command.
AL presidium member Faruk Khan said: “analysis is underway to find how the BNP candidate got so many votes even after they carried out countless misdeeds in the area.”
AL organising secretary, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, welcomed the AL victory, but said: “I am curious to know how BNP bagged so many votes when the head of the party is in jail for corruption.”
