BNP’s mayoral candidate for Gazipur Hasan Sarker says he plans to move the High Court claiming that his party’s supporters were arrested violating the High Court’s order.
The High Court on Monday issued a rule directing against arresting BNP leaders and activists in the city and instructed the attorney general to inform its order to the authorities immediately.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, after polls closed for the Gazipur City Election, Sarker said, “I have evidence that BNP leaders and activists were arrested violating the HC order.”
“I will move the court after consulting with the lawyers,” he said before adding, “They (police) must answer why they continued making arrests defying the order.”
Claiming BNP’ polling agents were thrown out from all but 20 to 25 polling stations, Sarker said, “Three to four leaders were held in early today, on the day of voting, and were released in the evening.”
“You (the media) have witnessed how the election was. That’s why we demanded for army deployment,” said the BNP leader.
