FILE PHOTO.FILE PHOTO/Syed Zakir HossainThe ruling Awami League has begun the operation to purge ‘hybrids’ from the party. Reportedly, work is already underway to make a list of hybrids. Recently, there was lot of talk in the party about infiltration of hybrids and AL presidium member, Mohammad Nasim, said: “Now, everyone one is AL and we need to be cautious of these people.”
After the issue of Nusrat killing in Feni by a former Jamaat activist, currently supported by local AL leaders, came to the fore, the hybrid issue was given due importance.
AL’s general secretary, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, says: “These people are being identified; we are pinpointing controversial leaders who entered AL from anti-liberation parties.”
The party will be made stronger and a purging operation will be carried out.
Reportedly, many leaders from other parties began to join AL after the party came to power in 2009.
It’s believed that in 2016 and 2017, a plethora of BNP-Jamaat leaders and workers from the field level joined AL.
Party president and PM Sheikh Hasina has always warned the party workers of such opportunists.
In 2017, letters from the central office gave specific instructions to prevent relatives of any Jamaat or BNP leader from joining AL.
Agriculture minister, Dr Abdur Razzak, has said: “Opportunists cannot join AL and hide their crimes.”
