B Chy urges govt to send Khaleda London for treatmentThe government should arrange for sending jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to London for medical treatment, says Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh chief AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
“Media reports quoted Khaleda’s doctor that she was unconscious for seven minutes. If that’s true then she had suffered from TIA (transient ischemic attack), which means a brief drop in blood flow to the brain.
“And usually in these cases, patients face the risk of brain stroke or paralysis. So she should get the best neurological care,” he said on Sunday while addressing an iftar party organised by Bangladesh Janadal (BJD).
A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a brief episode of neurological dysfunction caused by loss of blood flow (ischemia) in the brain, spinal cord, or retina, without tissue death (infarction). It causes the same symptoms associated with stroke, such as paralysis, weakness, or numbness on one side of the body.
A former president and doctor by training, Chowdhury said Khaleda should be entitled to the best medical care since being a three-time prime minister as well as the leader of opposition twice.
“I would urge the government to arrange for her treatment at the UCL Institute of Neurology or the Hammersmith Hospital in London.”
Chowdhury, who formed Bikalpa Dhara after the BNP ousted him, also serves as the president of a political coalition styled 'Jukta Front'.
It consists of three other parties — Kader Siddiqui’s Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL), ASM Abdur Rab led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Nagorik Oikya led by Mahumudur Rahman Manna.
“The people now want a free and fair national election and for that, the parliament should be dissolved at least 100 days before the polls so that the MPs and minister cannot influence. But before that a caretaker administration or a national government, with consent from all parties, has to be installed,” said Chowdhury.
He said that the Jukta Front wants a ‘peaceful solution to the problems’. “Take the example of Malaysia. Mahathir Mohammad has been elected through peaceful polls. Not a single supporter or political activist was detained or faced oppression after the election.”
