The workers in Bangladesh are not getting fair wages and respect for their jobs, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“Tax is deducted from their wages,” he said on Wednesday (May 1) during BNP’s rally for May Day.
He alleged that the government is using the money to fuel corruption in the name building Padma Bridge and large scale projects.
“Today the workers have neither fair wages nor respect,” he said, adding that they are unable to maintain a standard way of living.
Alleging that the government was hiking electricity and commodity prices to legitimise their corruption, Fakhrul said, “The government is robbing the banks and share market.”
He said that the regular working people are having to pay the price for it.
Addressing the workers he said, “You have to be aware of your rights. The garments sector is the most profitable at the moment.
“The country runs on that money and the remittance sent from abroad,” he said and added that the government is wasting that money.
He said that the government has robbed people of their rights and the workers have to stand united to restore the rights of the people.
