The Awami League (AL) wants its arch-rival BNP to join in the 11th parliamentary election, people familiar with the matter said.
The ruling party made it clear on Sunday when its leaders briefed Dhaka-based diplomats.
Diplomats were told that the election will be peaceful and participatory in accordance with the Constitution and the Election Commission is working on it with all-out support from the government, several leaders who participated in the briefing told Bangla Tribune.
AL leaders briefed them on existing political situation, ongoing crackdown on drug and upcoming general election.
Asked whether AL joining the polls alone or with coalition, the leaders told the diplomats their 14-party alliance is ideological whereas alliance with Jatiya Party is based on ballots.
Whether AL will continue to ally with JP cannot be said now, said AL leaders.
Diplomats of 12 countries including the US, Australia, France, the Netherlands and representatives of 21 other countries attended the programme.
