The government has turned Bangladesh into a failed state by robbing it of democracy, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“Even after so many years of Bangladesh’s freedom, the core spirit of Independence, democracy has been compromised,” he told the media on Tuesday (Mar 26) while visiting the memorial of the party founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Independence Day.
He said that the government has successfully destroyed all the institutions of the state.
Saying that the people are no longer safe, he added, “The general people have been robbed of all their rights, including their voting rights.”
He called on the people to restore the ideals of Independence and pledged to wage movements to release BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
