Gano Forum policymaking leaders met on Saturday (Mar 9) to discuss initiating legal actions against Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed, according to people familiar with the matter.
The meeting was held at the Motijheel offices of party chief Kamal Hossain, said Gano Forum spokesperson Latiful Bari Hamim.
Apart from members of the policymaking Presidium, Executive President Subrata Chowdhury, General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu attended the meeting.
On Thursday, Gano Forum ousted Sultan Mansur hours after he was sworn in as an MP, defying the party’s decision to not join the 11th National Parliament.
Mansur was also relieved from the steering committee of the political coalition Jatiya Oikya Front, which Kamal Hossain leads as its convener.
Mansur had won from Moulvibazar 2 constituency with BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol on a Gano Forum ticket, a key component of Oikya Front.Oikya Front, which also has BNP, Nagorik Oikya and Krishak Sramik Janata League, had rejected the last general election and its results, alleging widespread rigging.
The coalition had decided that its candidates who won from eight constituencies would not take oath.
However, after the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, Mansur told the media that he took oath to his office in “full knowledge” of the top brass of Oikya Front and Gono Forum.
The former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), however, declined to comment on the party’s decision to take action against him.
The party’s decision to expel him came just hours after he made the remarks.
Mansur had also joined the ongoing session in parliament later in the evening that day.
