The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has imposed restrictions on movements of outsiders and vehicles from Sunday 6pm to Monday 6pm due to the Dhaka University Central Student's Union election (DUCSU).
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said this while talking to media during a press briefing at Shahbag police station on Saturday (Mar 9).
He said: “During the restriction period, students, teachers and administration members of Dhaka University (DU) will be provided with special passes from the DU authorities.
“Those who will go to Dhaka Medical College Hospital are advised to take the Chankharpool and Bakshibazar routes."
When asked about any kind of restriction on media, he said: “Four cameras will be allowed from each electronic media outlet, and two reporters and one cameraman will be allowed from each print media outlet to cover the election.”
He furthered: “For security reasons every polling centre will be under CCTV coverage."The DMP chief also said DU authorities are making all the decisions, with the DMP assisting them.
Seven check-points will be set up surrounding the DU campus premises during the polls.
All Dhaka University classes and examinations will be suspended on election day
Earlier on Wednesday, it was decided at in a meeting of DU hall provosts that all types of vehicles, other than vehicles carrying a special pass from the authorities concerned, will be restricted inside the DU premises on the Ducsu and hall union elections.
DUCSU polls is scheduled to be held on Monday (Mar 11).
