“I have written to the Speaker’s office for administering the oath on Mar 7,” Sultan Md Mansur, who won the Moulvibazar-2 seat under the ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol,  told Bangla Tribune on Saturday (Mar 2).

Mokabbir said that he too has written to the Speaker’s office. “It now depends when the Speaker schedules it.

Asked whether the party gave its green light, he told Bangla Tribune, “Our party has always been positive on taking oath.”

Mokkabbir won the Sylhet-2 seat with the Gano Forum’s ‘rising sun’ symbol.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was yet to confirm receiving letters from the Gano Forum MPs-elect.

“I have been to my constituency, so not aware of it. Will be update tomorrow when I am at the office,” she told Bangla Tribune.

Gano Forun General Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu, however, said they were not aware the party’s MPs-elect writing to the Speaker.

“There has been no decision allowing them to write to the speaker. However, what have been agreed is all the Oikya Front MPs-elect will send letters together, if it’s decided to take oath, as a part of our movement.”

The Awami League has won 257 seats in the Dec 30 election and has formed the government for a third straight term.

The BNP and its allies in the coalition Jatiya Oikya Front, including Gano Forum, won only eight seats.

The Jatiya Oikya Front boycotted the results of the polls late on Election Day with its Convener Kamal Hossain calling for a fresh election.

Since then, BNP’s Mirza Fakhrul, who serves as the coalition’s spokesperson, has said several times that the MPs-elect will not take the oath to their office.

Several others in Oikya Front top brass, including ASM Abdur Rab of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Gano Forum leaders Subrata Chowdhury have been also maintaining it.
