BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that incarcerated party chairman Khaleda Zia is not getting routine check-ups.
“We are willing to bear the additional expenses for Khaleda Zia’s medical treatment,” he commented.
The BNP politician made the comments at a press conference held at the party’s Naya Paltan office on Tuesday (Feb 26).
Saying that the government is depriving her of proper treatment, he observed, “Since Nov 9 last, he has not had any tests and though a medical board inspected her on Feb 24, her blood has not been checked in the last three months.”
Demanding Khaleda Zia’s release, he observed, “If anything happens to Khaleda Zia due to lack of treatment, the government will have to take responsibility.”
Her diabetic condition has also exacerbated along with other complications, he added.
“She is not being allowed to meet her legal team and her meetings with relatives have become restricted.”
