The BNP will brief Dhaka-based diplomats on the 11th Nation Election for what the party says “to reveal the incidents of irregularities” during the Dec 30 voting.
The briefing, equipped with ‘multimedia presentations’, will be held at a Dhaka hotel on Sunday (Jan 6), several members of the BNP’s Foreign Affairs Committee told Bangla Tribune.
According to the people familiar with the matter, leaders of opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front may join the briefing.
“We sit with the foreign diplomats regularly and brief them on different aspects,” Sabih Uddin, a member of BNP’s panel of foreign affairs, said.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Advisor to BNP Chairperson Reaz Rahman will brief the diplomats, who are likely to be joined by Oikya Front leader and Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain.
Party sources said that the Foreign Affairs Committee had several meetings to prepare the briefing materials for diplomats.
It has prepared a video documentary as well as a report based on inputs from across the country on polls violence.
Incidents, including the rape of Noakhli woman and the arrest of a Khulna-based journalist for reporting on an alleged irregularity in vote counting will be highlighted in the briefing.
Video footage of attacking opposition supporters and the minority as well as setting their houses to fire at several districts, including Faridpur will be screened at the event.
Others issues, include providing the diplomats with evidences on ballot-stuffing the night before voting.
The BNP will also highlight the government’s move to block over 50 websites weeks before the voting as well as suspending faster 3G and 4G mobile internet services during the election.
“The diplomats will be provided with audio and video clips of polls violence,” said one of The Committee members, who proffered to go unnamed.
According to party insider sources, Dhaka-based diplomats have already received BNP’s invitations to attend the briefing.
Along with Mirza Fakhrul, its other top brasses are expected to attend the event.
Besides, the party may sit with the journalists from local and foreign media outlets to brief on the election.
