Islami Andolan Bangladesh has written to the Election Commission calling to cancel the Dec 30 voting and reschedule a fresh election.

A delegation of the Islamist party submitted the letter by its Ameer (chief) Syed Rezaul Karim alias Chormonai Pir at the Commission’s offices on Wednesday (Jan 2).

Islami Andolan fielded candidates in 298 seats, who contested with the logo ‘winnowing fan’.

In its letter, the party chief claimed that supporters of ruling alliance, in collusion with officials, stuffed stamped ballots in all the constituencies the night before the voting.

He also alleged ruling party supporters of attacking their polling agents and booth capturing.

Describing the Dec 30 voting as a “farce and waste of taxpayers’ money”, the Islami Andolan urged the Commission to cancel the election as soon as possible and arrange a fresh voting.

“Islami Andolan rejects the results of the Dec 30 polls,” reads the letter.
