Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has termed the gang-rape of a Noakhali woman as a heinous crime and said that the perpetrators will not get away.
“The law enforcers are on the alert and the perpetrators will not get away,” he told the media on Wednesday (Jan 2).
Saying that he came to know about the incident the day it happened, Quader added, that the Deputy Inspector General was investigating the crime scene and that the military was looking at the matter with utmost seriousness.
“The administration is on the alert. The government is taking a severe stance on the matter.”
On Monday (Dec 31), a woman in Noakhali was raped and assaulted brutally by a group of men for allegedly casting her vote in favour of ‘paddy sheaf.'
However, he denied being privy to the arrest of two journalists in Khulna-1 over a vote counting report.
“I am not aware of the Khulna incident but I will look in to it,” Quader said.
