BNP`s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. File PhotoThe Awami League-led Grand Alliance did not win by people’s vote but by stealing them, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
“Dec 30 is a dark day. The Awami cadres and law enforcement engaged in blatant vote rigging on the night of Dec 29,” he told the media on Wednesday (Dec 30).
Rizvi alleged that the winning Alliance bribed the law enforcers to hold one-sided polls, adding that the Dec 30 polls was a dark chapter in Bangladesh’s democracy.
Terming the soon to be formed Hasina led government as “Government of the BGB, by the RAB and for the Police,” Rizvi said that by the blatant vote snatching, the Awami League was undermining the the people’s democratic rights.
“The Dec 30 election was uglier than that of 1973,” he said adding that despite their many attempts to hide it, the ruling party’s mega vote rigging was laid bare in front of the people of Bangladesh as well as the international community.
The senior BNP leader said that after the elections the country will be enveloped by a generation of brutality. He alleged that BNP activists were being persecuted indiscriminately and being arrested.
Talking about the Noakhali gang-rape incident, where a mother of four was raped by a group of men for allegedly voting for ‘paddy sheaf,’ Rizvi alleged that it was the work of Awami League men.
