Welcoming the Election Commission’s move to deploy troops across Bangladesh, Jatiya Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal says that it would help to create a congenial atmosphere for the election.
“Armed forces must create a level field for all parties and play a positive role,” he said in a statement sent to the media from Monday (Dec 23), a day before members of armed forces scheduled to be deployed.
The veteran lawyer, who leads the political party Gano Forum, said, they hope that the army will not stand against the interest of the people to implement the agenda of an individual or group.
“The armed forces serve the country and its people, and the image of the armed forces cannot be tarnished for a handful of individuals,” it reads.
On Dec 13, the Commission announced that troops will be deployed as a strike force for 10 days from Dec 24 for the 11th national election slated.
